Question for EVERYONE: Do you listen to music when you fish? Answer truthfully and your reason why. The different answers and theories should be interesting.

My answer: NO, Reason: I feel that the beat and vibrations from the music transfer through the hull and into the water. Fish hear by sound waves and I feel that since I fish in pretty shallow water it may spook the fish. My catch rate is much higher than a neighbor of mine who can't help himself with the tunes. On numerous occasions I would fish on his boat and have a slow day. Then we would fish on mine and do much better. Just an observation and a theory. Would like to hear from someone with a biology background and what they have to say.

John, I've fished both with and without, never thought about whether or not the music was a problem. How about the twin motors running at 3 knots? No vibrations in the water or are fish just used to engine noise? I once lived near a train track and never heard the train after living there for awhile. Your body knew it was there but tuned it out. Following the same logic, fish may be used to all the pleasure boaters and their music. When I'm trolling, I usually have the music on as the lines are way behind the boat. When at anchor, we usually have just the VHF radio on so we can BS with each other

Hi All -

Well I have heard stanger things! Normally I don't have the radio on when I fish but that has nothing to do with the fishing it is so I can hear whet is going on in the cockpit from the bridge.

Although, one guy told me a story about fishing with the sound system playing classic music, trolled for three hours not a bite. His young son change the cd to mondern music with heavy bass and two minutes later they had two tuna on the lines. Guess the fish liked the tunes!

That is like the story about a couple of guys on my dock going out for tuna with a charter! This charter is always successful with hooking the tuna! This day they had been out 4 hours and nothing. When one of the guys went into the cabin and came out eating a banana! Everyone went nuts! You can have banana's on a fishing boat it is bad luck, so they told him to throw it over! Almost immediately they hooked up! They all just about threw him over board!

Could it be the banana oil attracted the tuna?
