This tip I picked up from THE FISHERMAN years ago. When fluke fishing, (if we have a season) substitute the sinker with a bucktail. Since I tie most of my own rigs, I tie a 3 way swivel to the main line. I branch off with approx. 24" to 30" with 30# mono or flourocarbon (I like long leaders) and tie on a 3/0 or 4/0 hook (I vary the style). I then tie approx. 12" to 18" , depending on conditions of 30# mono or flourocabon to a bucktail, weight being dictated by conditions. I tip the bucktail with a squid strip or plastic worm and the hook with a killie/squid combo, shedder crab, etc. The bucktail stirs up the bottom and entices the strike and if it misses the bucktail the fish has the second bait. I have caught multiple fish, including blues and weakfish with this rig. |
