One of my heat exchangers has a pin hole in the middle of the bottom tank. Has any one had any success with having them brazed or soldered at a Radiator Shop? A new replacement costs almost $800, for my 454 Crusaders.

You can give it a try, but if there is a pin hole , most likely it's just the beginning of a larger problem. If the metal is too deteriorated they won't be able to make the repair. As they try the hole will just keep getting bigger but it's certainly worth a try , it may have gotten there because something was rubbing against it, in that case it will work. |

Hopefully, they can pull off the end cap and get at the leak. Like Leo says, it might be the beginning of a bigger problem. I have had holes fixed by having them brazed with silver solder (?). It was explained that this type of repair is much stronger than regular solder in this kind of item since regular solder will no last due to the heat
I've seen heat exchangers for sale every now and then on ebay, so if the leak can be fixed, you can always keep an eye out for another exchanger

I would definitely try to repair it first. It would also be a good idea to look for a spare back up. This might just work out to be a repair to get you an extra season or two. I have also seen at work when we would repair a radiator on a piece of equipment just to put it back in service because it was needed like yesterday and that repair lasted untill we got rid of it 5 or 6 years later.

Repair it is then. This season or the next 5 years all work for me. Thanks you for your comments and support.
