Every year about this time as in past years Buzzard Bay takes a life, third of this season so far and always the same place, less than 1/2 mile from shore. Because it is so close to shore boaters always over estimate their abilities. This area in the past has taken 50 footers down quickly - At one point you are literally less than 100 feet from shore and 50' from stand up water less than 4 feet deep! Here is the latest 20 footer reported by the Coast Guard!

CAPSIZING LEAVES ONE DEAD, ONE SURVIVES

BOSTON - An 82-year-old man died and his son was rescued by the Coast Guard about 3:15 this afternoon after their boat capsized near the Hog Island #2 buoy in Buzzard's Bay, Mass.

The father was recovered from the water unconscious and not breathing nearly one hour after his son was saved from their 20-foot capsized recreational boat.

The Coast Guard response boat was returning from a routine patrol when the crew spotted the son on top of his vessel and took him aboard. His father, who had been on the boat with him, was missing.

The response boat immediately began searching the area for the man's father. Additionally, the Coast Guard Cutter Flyingfish was diverted from its nearby patrol to assist with the search, and an HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Cape Cod was launched.

The aircrew located the father about 4:15 p.m., and the response boat crew took him aboard. Father and son were transported to Onset State Pier where an ambulance was awaiting for further transport to Tobey Hospital in Wareham, Mass.

The father was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at the hospital.

The water temperature in Buzzard's Bay was 50-degrees Fahrenheit with four to six foot seas.

Like I have said before BB is no place for the weak of heart! The sea conditions can be very dangerious with many large waves with very quick intervals! This area is less than a mile wide but every year it takes a couple of lives usually at the begining of the season just to remind every one that it is a tough area to navigate - Feel bad for the victims who don't use caution! Beware of boating in this area!
