About 6 years ago I came up with the idea to use my infrared thermometer (which I normally use to monitor the temp. on weldments) to use to monitor the water temperature. Since I prefer to use shoot thru the hull transducers, I don't have the temp function on my fish finder. I have seen them as low as $39 and up to the $200 range depending on the temp range and sensitivity. It is a good alternative if you want that feature without buying a new unit. You can also use it to help trouble shoot engine problems such as overheating. (Gibraltor is not the only place for overheating problems)
