An overlooked and not so flashy or cool looking item on our fish catching equipment list is the landing net. It is one of the most important components that routinely gets overlooked. Not only that, but if it comes down to spending $200 0n a reel or $50 on a net, most likely the money would be spent on the reel as you think "I only had the net for a few years", but in reality it could have been 15 or more. Or when you were buying the net, you compared prices and bought a smaller net to save money with the reasoning that most of the fish you catch will fit. That was the case with I guy that I worked with when he lost a fluke of a lifetime. He tried lifting the fish out of the water, flat, hanging over each side of the ring. Result: Lost fish. Check the net for dry rot, cuts, etc. Check your net now, so that you can choose the right one and not settle for one good enough the night before the trip. There are a lot of show and winter specials out there now.
