|
|
Does anyone know the height under the shower pan
of a 32 foot fly bridge?
I want to cut the shower pan, install a rule
slump pump and then fiberglass back over.
I'm just wondering if the rule pump will just
drop in (height 5 1/2 to 6 '') or will I need
to raise the pan?
Thanks guys |

the shower drain pump on my 34' is mounted to a board that strattle's two rib's, the pump is on the strbd side and elevated enough to stay out of bilge water, the shower is on port.this area is accesible through a lift out hatch between the v-berth and galley.this pump discharges out of a through hull fitting well above the waterline.it has a switch next to the shower for activateing, also the installer has a very large loop in the discharge line to avoid any backwater from the exterior. i think i'd do what ever it would take to avoid cutting out the shower pan. |

My shower drain pump is mpounted in the cabinet under the sink, I can see it when I open the the cabinet. 2 hoses, one from the shower and the other goes to the thru hull, can you get yours setup like that? |

the pump itself it mounted in the cabinet.
1 hose runs overboard
1 hose runs (ran) behind the cabinet
down towards the bildge. Just before
the bildge there is a small bulkhead
where the hose connects to the drain.
there is only about 2 1/2inches of
opening from the bildge area to
reach in and access the drain hose
and the drain pipe.
I am looking at cutting open the shower
pan (removing the existing drain) and
installing the rule slump pump. Once the
pump is installed I'll glass it in with a liner,
screws and a rubber seal.
I'd just like to know if I am going to have
to raise the pan in order to install the pump.
thanks,
jim |

provided you dont exceed the manufacture's recommended distance's of intake and discharge you can put your pump anywhere you want.
i now believe mine had been mounted just as your's and change's is, this explain's the 4 bolt hole's in the shelf in the head cabinet i have. for what ever reason a previous owner had moved the pump to where it is now.
i've become acustom to the rule, if it's mechanical it will fail, this is the only reason i try to keep thing's user friendly. personaly i know i would not bury a pump some where that is only accesible by removeing something as major as a shower pan.but, i'm not a big fan of doing glass work either.
i'm kind of curious as to why your feeling the need to move your's,i dont understand why mine is where it is other then ease of working on it. which,,dang it!! in giving this thing some thought, i'd much rather work on it in the head as oppossed to flopping around on the galley floor in a boater's contortion reaching around in the bilge. |

As you said "I's much rather work on it in the head as oppossed to flopping around on the galley floor in a boater's contortion reaching around in the bilge"
That is 1 of the reasons. 2nd is the drain hole clogs
up to easy, without putting a 2nd screen over it.
I guess inthe next few weeks I'll just cut
it open (the pan) and see if it fits. If it doesn't
I'll just raise the pan. |

i understand the plugging up, i have long hair myself, if i dont use the flat rubber extra screen thing in the bottom of the shower{and tub at home} i can plug a drain or pump with the quickness. it's no fun cleaning the mess up but it beat's the alternetive. best of luck to ya, |
